Famous last words

It was around the beginning of the Persian Gulf War. Mrs. Gelde decided it was time for a serious discussion about global events.

“Today we are going to talk about war. Does anybody want to share what your parents have told you?”

I looked around. There were no other hands in the air, so I threw up mine.

“Yes, Carrie,” Mrs. Gelde said with a grimace.

“All I know is this: We should be making love and not war.”

I got a spanking.

Thanks, Mom and Dad.
